Awarded Idea Grant to develop unique workshop

crossborder-science-journalism-workshop-logoScience does not stop at the US-Mexico border, and neither should science reporting. But it does. Despite past efforts, some of the most important issues of our time–such as health and the environment–fail to reach the public’s awareness. Together with two co-organizers, Lynne Friedmann and S. Lynne Walker, I hope to change that.

We have applied for and won an Idea Grant awarded by the National Association of Science Writers to create the first-ever Cross-Border Science Journalism Workshop to be held at the Institute of the Americas on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla, CA, on April 27th. We anticipate gathering 40-50 US and Mexican science journalists into one room and making lasting connections that we believe will transform science reporting across the border.

Thank you to NASW for believing in our vision of a future with improved cross-border reporting!
